The Ion was Smart Parts Ground breaking paintball gun release in early 2005. The Ion changed the paintball world forever: a spool valve electronic gun with eyes for fewer than $300? It was un-heard of at the time. Now every company wants a piece of what smart parts started 3 years ago. The Ion is STILL the best bang for your buck if you want to get into tournament level paintball at an entry level pricing. The Ion paintball gun has the capability to keep up with any paintball gun on the market with un-matched reliability. The Ion is also setup to give you many upgrade options if you feel inclined. This paintball gun will without a doubt compete with any tournament level marker on the market today at a fraction of the price. There is really no other way to go if you want to get into the tournament level scene and you want the options to upgrade to an even higher level paintball gun in the future.
Smart Parts' most affordable marker ever. The Ion was built to be the marker for anyone who loves the game: simple to maintain easy to use designed for winning. It takes abuse like a rental gun but throws paint with the best of them. You'll get the accuracy range and rate of fire the Pro's enjoy for just a little more money than an entry level marker. The days of having to spend tons of cash to get what you want are over. Will operate with compressed air or CO2 w/Anti-Siphon Tube Kit.
Features:
  • 17 balls per second semi-auto rate of fire with 3 shot burst full auto and our Rebound firing mode.
  • Break-beam Vision Anti-Chop System. Reliable and durable the eyes are mounted on a separate board for perfect alignment and not affected by paint or body color. Just clean and replace (in minutes).
  • Featherweight Prizefighter. At 2.2 pounds the Ion is among the lightest high-end markers made and it’s tube design imparts an ultra low profile.
  • Reliability. The Ion was engineered to stand up to the demands of professional players. It will outlast what used to be considered high-end and won't break down the minute you get it home.
  • Improved Ball Detents. Approximately 10 times the service life of current detents.
  • Great Efficiency. Expect a reliable 1000-1400 shots from a 68ci 4500psi bottle without any modifications.
  • Accuracy & Range. The trademarks you expect from Smart Parts.
  • Body Kits. A first for paintball. High-quality aluminum internals are protected by composite shells allowing you to instantly change the color or look of your body. Tired of blue? Switch to red. Or black. Or yellow. And there are more body styles in the works...
  • Feed Tube with O-Ring Seals. Fits a wider range of hoppers than most guns in this price range.
  • Tools.1/8 Allen wrench is all you need for primary disassembly- and it’s included along with trigger and velocity adjustment wrenches and a handy parts kit.
  • Impulse Threads. Take advantage of the barrels and feed tubes you may already have.

I've played for 14 years, almost all recball. The Ion is one of the better guns I've played with (at least compared to Bushies, upped Mags and even a couple of Angels), and probably the best for the money.

I've shot a few cases through mine, and haven't had a ball chop (despite using some downright awful paint). With a good hopper this thing will rip. I didn't find it to be a gas hog (800 shots out of a 68 ci/3K with gas left over). I've heard the regulator can be hit or miss, but on mine it's definitely a hit.

I recommend this to anyone looking to get some more firepower on the field than the more pedestrian spyders/tippmanns.

Great beginners gun for the money. I use it for speedball and woodsball. Shoots fast and accurate. My only con is that it uses air real fast. Definately get the large air tank.

ive shot a few different guns, ive been playin paintball for about 4 years and this is the only gun i have OWNED... but it rips, is accurate, light, and can take a beating. chops a little if it is completely stock in the cold.... nothing a new barrel wouldnt fix... expect to spend some money fixing it up... id recomend an all american 14 in. barrel, cp trigger (the one that is bowed out), dye rotor hopper (big buy but worth it), virtue board (once again big buy, but well worth it), and i added a shock tech cut through body kit, looks sweet.

Alright the ion is a good gun no doubt whatsoever . It was my first market and I thuroughly enjoyed it. It is good for any setting and is perfect for recball. Cons: depending on skill level, u should upgrade. Trigger feedneck. Hopper. Asa/ macroline. Board barrel.

Don't worry. All those cons ere if you wanted to take it to a pro tourney. Stock ion is still a very nice marker and you can't beat the price for it.

    I would recc. To friend

great gun for airball. my friend with a pilot wishes he got this gun. i always loved playing woods ball and hated airball until i got this gun. now i love airball. before i had this i had a spyder sonix and it always messed up. i dislike spyder guns for their quality and smart parts really made this gun good. the only thing i would change is adjusting the different modes. you have to remove the grips and press this small button until you get it on the right mode and you wont know what mode it is on until you shoot it.

I have had my Ion for a year now and I am actually glad that I bought it. Because of the inclusion of a board, I am able to shoot at my speed. I highly doubt anyone can, let alone need, shoot higher than 17 balls a second. The reason it needs that special something is because of the Ion's need for upgrades. Expect to spend another [$]upgrading the feedneck, QEV, ASA, trigger, and barrel. That said, it's a solid marker that can shoot as fast as you can and take a fair beating as well.

This was my first electronic gun. All my friends all use spyder and they are not vary quality products. They might look better but there not. Your first or second gun should be SP Ion.
